This past weekend the kiddos and I ventured out to the Kmart Beyond The Back Pack event. We had so much fun, learned a lot, and got some shopping in! Since I brought the kids with me I let them explore the different stations that had set up. There were raffles, free $5 Kmart gift cards, and nice reusable bags with back to school items, and family friendly music.
Dora The Explorer and Shimmer and Shine made appearances and hung out with the kiddos ( and some parents too)! Chance is not a huge fan of characters being close to him, but he loves seeing them from a distance. I tried to get him to join the group picture with Dora and he didn’t gracefully decline he completely lost it. LOL. Super grateful that had activities to keep him busy. The stations set up were focused around STEM. They had a sand, coloring, blocks and areas where the kids could dance, ride bikes, and beat an obstacle course. Special thanks to Natasha from The Houseful of Nicholes for helping me deal with the kids since the hubby had to work this weekend.
Beyond The Back Pack is a nationwide initiative to promote overall kindergarten readiness for preschoolers. Getting ready for school requires more than having a backpack full of supplies. Beyond the Backpack can help you build and support a solid foundation for your little one’s education. Nick Jr. Beyond the Backpack provides parents and caregivers with tips, activities, and resources focusing on five major areas that have been recognized as critical to kindergarten readiness: Family Engagement, Health & Wellness, Literacy Skills, Social & Emotional Skills, and STEM Skills (Science, Technology, Engineering & Math).
Shopping until I dropped!
After the kids played their hearts out we went inside to Kmart get some shopping done. My oldest supply list included paper towels, hand santizer, Kleenex, and sharpened pencils. It was a breeze to get those items in the Back-to-School aisle. Lastly, I was able to create this amazing basket for a Trunk Party I was invited to later that day. Shopping for dorm stuff is so much fun it makes you think about college days. Gifts that are functional and cute work perfect for girls Trunk Parties! Kmart had a whole section for Dorm Life.
The basket contained:
- Large file crate (used as a basket).
- Large Cotton Bath towel
- 8 Pack of colorful washcloths
- Velvet Plush Throw
- Big tub of Lysol Disinfectant wipes
- Tide Clothes Detergent
- A thoughtful card with encouraging words!
I can truly say Kmart is a one stop shop for Back to School shopping rather you are getting your toddler ready for Pre-K or sending your young adult off to college!
