A few weeks ago my family and I headed over to Washington Park like we do every year to enjoy the “Soul” Circus! This has become a tradition in my family for the last 6 years. I started taking my oldest son and baby sister and then my other little sister wanted to attend and then my mom got tired of missing out on the action and began going and if the show we attend happens to fall on my husband’s off day he tags along too. Now that we have Chance we have added him to the mix of our tradition and he loves it. The Soul Circus is such a treat every year because it feels like home.
I know saying the circus feels like home is strange, even though sometimes my home does seem like a circus lol. What I mean by home is that we can relate to the music, the culture, the language. As a family of color sometimes we go places and we stick out like a sore thumb. It’s a horrible feeling to feel like nothing relates to you especially if you are spending your own money. Don’t get me wrong I am all about exploring other cultures and I thrive on teaching my boys new things and push them to think outside of the box, but nothing feels like home.
UniverSoul Circus brings the heat each year. The performers change up some of their routines, the Dj plays all the latest songs, Fresh the clowns come out with crowd pleasing dances, and the costumes oh my get better each year too. Clean family fun is hard to come by these days so I can always count on the Soul Circus to bring some of it’s Big Top love to Chicago every Fall. Like the young folks say “It’s Lit!”
Another thing that I love about this Circus is that every seat in the house is a good seat. I have sat every where from the last row to the second row and each time I had bird’s eye view. Don’t worry about where you are sitting just get the kids in the building. They will dance and sing the night away. You won’t have time to be bored there will be enough to keep you entertained as well. Trust me!
The last day for the UniverSoul Circus in Chicago this year is Sunday Oct. 29th make sure you let the little ones in your life get the chance to experience the Soul Circus. Thank me later. You can grab tickets from Ticketmaster or the Box Office at Washington Park. If you aren’t in Chicago don’t worry they have a more cities to party in, check out their website to find out when they will be near you.
Wow that’s great I never been because of location. I’m really looking forward now to take my children and grandson’s. Sometimes we Have to step out on faith, It’s nice to hear that it’s a tradition for family fun. I always attended the circus at united center because it’s was close to home. Once we attend the soul circus I just know it will lead to a family tradition ad well. Thanks A real Urban Mom for a positive outline.
As a West Sider I know what you mean about the United Center being closer but once you hop on the sway you’ll be right at Washingon Park! If you guys can definitely check it out the kids will love it. Thanks for reading!
