Created a vision board for 2014 with #Intelchi

The new year always gets me excited not because I dramatically change or anything, but it gives me the feeling of a clean slate. A new chance to figure things out this time. Also it opens up doors for new opportunity. Who doesn’t like new stuff?

While strolling on facebook one day I noticed a post about a digital vision board event hosted by motivatal speaker Yanni Brown. It caught my attention and it was a plus that it was free. I signed up and marked it in my calendar I was excited. I have done vision boards before, but never digitally.

My friend Margo and I had a good time working on our vision boards, Yanni was great, the snacks were tasty, and the whole process was motivational. It was cool to come into a place full of the latest technology. We were all given a chance to select an tablet or laptop to work on. I had one of the newest laptops on the market and using it was a breeze. I also had a Coke and a Red Velvet Cupcake. Can you say heaven?

We used Oprah’s site to create our boards. It was pretty easy and self explanatory, but the hard part was really figuring out what you really wanted to do. Yanni stressed to us to only post what we wanted to do not what others wanted us to do or not what we thought would be good to do for the kids or our spouse, but for ourselves. I totally related to that because sometimes as women we forget what we want and we fall down the pit of resentment later because we never dug deep enough to find out what we really wanted out of life and actually go for it.

My vision board was very meaningful to me because this is the last year of  my 20’s and its certain things I want before I hit 30. so I piled them on my board. I sat silently trying to focus in on my inner voice and listening to God. 2014 has to be aligned by Him not by my flesh or what society says. I kept reminding myself that as I placed things on my board. The session left me at peace with my past misakes and excited for my new mission.

Overall it was a great experience. The plus was hearing some people stand in front of the group and break down their visions and goals. I think EVERYONE should have a vision board even kids. It’s free, it’s eye opening, and its motivational. Start your new year off with direction and determination.

Here are a few of the items on my vision board. I will probably share the whole board on the blog later this year, but for now here are some of the things I will be working on.

  • Getting healthy while losing weight
  • Working for myself. No clocking in and clocking out for anyone. I want to be my own boss.
  • Travel more.
  • Be great at balancing being a CEO, wife, mother and a million other roles.
  • Growing a deeper relationship with God.

Don’t let fear or doubt stop you in 2014. Put your dreams and goals in writing and watch God blow your mind. I am so excited about your future!

P.S. Share with me if you have done a vision board before? Did some of your dreams come true? And if you have never done one before, but plan on working on one now feel free to share it with me. I would love to see them.

Are you a Boss? Try Burger Boss on SouthPort

Amazing! That is the first word that comes to my mind when I think about my visit to the Boss Burger Southport location. Last Friday the Hubz and I headed out for a quick dinner with my parents to Burger Boss. Before I go most places I always read the reviews so I can know what to expect. The reviews were impressive. I looked for certain key words and I was glad to see they were all there. As a true beef fan I eat burgers a lot, but I don’t want a plain flimsy burger. I want a burger that’s fresh, packed with bacon, cheese, onions, lettuce and a good sauce and paired with a great order of fries. After visiting Burger Boss I can honestly say I received that and much more.

As you may know my husband is a cook, which means he is extremely picky when it comes to restaurants. Especially when it comes to burgers, he is the kind of guy that wants everything piled up on his bun plus two gourmet beef patties. I knew taking him would be interesting. When we entered the restaurant we were greeted and the cashier walked us through the menu. My dad was busy speaking with the manager Mike about their great location and the whole concept of grass-fed cows. Once we finally got his attention he eagerly ordered.

The menu selection is solid. You can pick a beef burger, turkey burger, veggie patty, Portobello mushroom, or chicken breast. My mom went with the chicken breast and the rest of us did double beef patties (yes I can eat double the meat LOL). My husband and I actually picked the same burger separately ( I knew it was something about him I liked. heehee). We selected The Southport Boss which has Applewood Smoked Bacon, All-Natural Cheddar, Lettuce, Tomato, Boss Sauce, Pickles, Grilled Onions piled high on a Brioche bun. Yep. I ate ALL of mine. So did the hubz.

Like I mentioned before my mother got the Chicken breast instead of a beef patty, but the sandwich is made the same way. Her selection was The Classic Boss that included American Cheese, Lettuce, Tomato, Pickles, Ketchup, Mustard, Mayonnaise and she had it piled on top of a pretzel bun. My dad loves a good gourmet burger so he picked The Bleu Burger which consisted of  Melted Bleu Cheese, Sauteed Mushrooms, Grilled Onions, Lettuce, Mayonnaise, on top of a Whole Wheat bun.

We didn’t do much talking at our tables. We just ate and smiled. The fresh handcut shoestring fries were like no other. They even have delicious sweet potato fries. To seal the deal I ordered a coconut milkshake and my mom jumped on the bandwagon and ordered a strawberry one. So tasty, rich, and smooth. I don’t have one bad thing to say about this place. I like that it’s kid friendly I will bring Dereon with us next visit. The men loved the fact the big screen TVs were playing the basketball game while my mom and I loved the décor and the clean and spacious bathrooms. The staff was extremely helpful and warm. The atmosphere was laid back and welcoming I didn’t feel rush at all. Before we left the head chef sent us out their monthly burger for us to try out and boy, it was amazing. January special is called The Banh Mi Boss and it has different flavors all rolled into one great burger: Angus beef patties with their in-house Pickled Carrots and Radishes, fresh Cucumber slices, Jalapeno Peppers and Cilantro, all tucked in a toasted Brioche bun finished with Sriracha Hoisin Mayo.

Burger Boss is great for a laid back date night, family night, a quick bite for lunch, or you just want a great burger. Stop by The Burger Boss on Southport. Check them out their website and like them on Facebook!

Cell phone blues

So I have the Cell Phone blues. LOL. I am sure you have experienced this before. Your phone is acting up: maybe not charging properly, freezing, or barely receiving any reception, etc. It sucks! You feel lost when your phone isn’t working right. You think you are missing calls, texts, important social media updates and point blank you feel out of touch. Yeah, you have been there.. that’s where I am currently.

I dropped my phone a while ago and it had a crack…it was ugly, but workable. Then a few weeks ago I really cracked my screen. I almost cried (sad but true). I was so upset. The only thing I could do was go to sleep so I wouldn’t think about it.  No question about it I love my phone and I am always on it either for work or personal business or for fun.  After a few days I just thought I would just repair my screen. But then I noticed all the new phones that were out now. Like the Note 3, The Samsung Galaxy 4, and the Nexus 5. So many choices.

My poor iPhone 4S will be getting replaced soon. The search for the perfect cell phone for me is on. I need a BIG phone… if you know me then you know I can hardly see. LOL. I like large fonts and a big screen. Also as a blogger I am always checking in, taking pictures, and on social media in general so I need a phone that has good battery life as well as an impressive camera.

This is a big deal to me because I want to pick something that I can use for my business as well as personal.  Once I find the perfect phone you guys will be the first to know so stay tuned=) And if you have any suggestions let me know I am all ears!

Frigid cold hits Chicago! 5 tips to help keep you warm

Yikes! It’s freezing. Monday felt like -12 and today the highest is 5! Yes 5 degrees. I know living in the Midwest means you are going to have cold winters, but this has been the coldest 2 days of my life. No joke!

The CPS cancelled school 2 days in a row which is a BIG deal. Mostly all Chicago government offices were closed, some CTA train services were shut down, and there were a few deaths reported in regards to men having heart attacks while shoveling the show. Illinois was declared a state of disaster!

Pretty scary right? So today my husband and I called and checked on the elderly, stopped at the grocery store to stock up in some food, and started the car and let it run a few so the battery wouldn’t die. The kiddo had to stay in because it was way too cold.

If you are in an area that is experiencing the frigid cold currently please follow these tips:

1. Make sure you have working jumper cables in your car. Your battery may need some help to start because of the cold. Also have a gas can in the trunk.

2. Start your car and let it run a while before traveling even if it’s a short trip.

3. Dress in layers!! Hoodies, leggings, two pairs of socks, etc. It’s better to be safe than sorry.

4. If you are using a space heater or turning on your oven for extra heat please monitor it and don’t sleep with them on, this may cause a fire.

5. To keep your home a little warmer cover windows and the base of the doors with plastic to keep draft air out.

Bundle up guys and stay safe!
